CELEBRATING LUNAR NEW YEAR WITH PANDA EXPRESS

Feb. 12 marks the beginning of Lunar New Year and the Chinese Zodiac Year of the Ox. Panda Express, one of our corporate partners, makes a great place to celebrate.

Lunar New Year, or Spring Festival, dates back thousands of years. It’s a time when family and friends gather to feast and welcome the new year. The Lantern Festival, when thousands of hanging red lanterns glow in the sky, signals the end of the 15-day celebration.

Lucky foods symbolize good fortune in the new year. Egg rolls represent wealth. Chow Mein noodles signify long life. Shrimp stands for happiness and make Lunar New Year fun and delicious, especially if you’re enjoying it at one of Panda Express’ locations in the Philadelphia, PA area.

Gifts of red envelopes from an older person to a younger person during the Lunar New Year bring good luck and ward off evil spirits. The act of giving is about wishing good fortune and prosperity upon another.

Make your own lucky red envelope donation for kids at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia  at the register of any local Panda Express. Click here to find a Panda Express near you. You’ll be joining nearly 20 percent of the world in celebrating this ancient ― and delicious ― tradition.
